It's been 5 years since Mike has trekked west to chase big game. 5 years ago was when Mike and his cousin Walt set out to hunt elk in the mountains of Colorado. It was a grueling hunt but Mike was able to call in a great bull for his cousin Walt, and thankfully he made the shot count. This year, Mike got the itch to go elk hunting again and try to get his first ever elk. With years of points in Wyoming, it was time to cash them in. He decided to book the hunt with Savery Creek Outfitters near Savery, WY. He was hoping for a good elk hunt in the peak of the rut. Upon arriving at camp, the guides told them that the bulls were going crazy and that they should be in for an exciting week of hunting. The action did not disappoint! The morning of day 1 brought lots of elk, lots of bugling, but no arrows were launched. After a midday break, they headed back out for the evening hunt. In the action all afternoon, it was looking like the day would come to a close as most of the elk started drifting off away from them. About to call it a day, another bull bugled down the valley from them. With a little coaxing, the guide called him straight to them. Mike settled the pin and let it fly! This is Mike's first elk, and it was exactly what he was hoping for when he planned his trip to Wyoming.
