LAST DAY, LAST LIGHT

After hunting hard and having a few close calls during the month of September, JP was excited to see if he could make it happen in North Dakota during the late season.  After Jake tagged out on the first day of the trip, warm weather moved in and the deer movement was slow.  After 5 days of slow sits, we would be taking it down to the wire on our last night of hunting before heading home for the holidays.  We climbed into a Barronett blind a few hours before dark at a spot that we had never hunted.  A solid buck had been on camera the two nights prior, right at last light.  With temperatures a little colder than the previous couple of days, we were optimistic he would just a little bit earlier.  We spotted the buck well before dark, in the distance and he was paralleling the blind a couple hundred yards away.   We lost sight of him and weren't sure where he was going.  Come to find out, he did a big loop and popped up about 50 yards to the southwest of us.  He cautiously worked into bow range and we were at the ready.  JP made a great shot and capped off another great year for us in the state of North Dakota!
