URBAN BLOOD

Brennen Nading - Iowa - October 29th, 2025

By: Brennen Nading (@nadingbr)

This is my second year participating in the urban hunt close to home.  Last year, being my first year, I was required to shoot 3 does to be eligible for a buck tag this year.  Thankfully, I was able to harvest the does and get my hands on a buck tag for 2025.  With permission to hunt some private ground within the unit, I was beyond excited for the season to get here.  With permission from the landowner, I did as much as I could in the off season to increase my chances come fall.  Several water holes were installed, and a couple of food plots carved out and planted.  My plan was to monitor cameras, and strike when the conditions were right.  After several days of ESE winds (not ideal for this particular piece of ground), the winds switched out of the NE on October 29th.  I slipped into a virgin stand that overlooked a large tract of CRP.  Cold morning and high pressure had the deer moving like crazy!  This buck was cruising at 10am and turned on a dime when I hit him with a couple grunts.  He charged the base of our tree and the rest is history!  Very thankful for the permission and the opportunity to put my first urban buck on the ground!
